Road Safety Initiatives

1.35 million lives are lost each year in traffic accidents worldwide. Through our strong focus on ‘safety first’, we aim to help bring this number to zero.

Toyota Motor Corporation is taking a comprehensive approach that addresses three key elements (people, cars and traffic environment) towards achieving its ultimate vision'.  In line with this philosophy, Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK Ltd (TMUK) prioritizes the safety and well-being of our local communities.

Our commitment to road safety stems from a deep-rooted sense of corporate social responsibility, a dedication to our employees' welfare, and a desire to foster strong community relations. By investing in local road safety initiatives, we align with Toyota's core values, contribute to reducing societal costs, and acknowledge our responsibility as a major local employer. We believe that safer roads benefit everyone and people and infrastructure play vitol roles.

Our Road Safety Initiatives

We were pleased to donate £30,000 to Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service to fund a new Youth and Community Education Van, equiped to engage young people who remain the highest risk group in regard to road safety and risk behaviours.

The vehicle will serve as a mobile learning environment equipped with virtual reality (VR) headsets and a 360-degree camera. This setup allows learners to complete practical training in a risk-free environment where they can learn by doing.

Via East Midlands' Road Safety team, in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council, have developed a Free Drive on workshop for residents of Nottinghamshire.  The workshop equips drivers with insights and knowledge into the latest driving regulations, road designs and automotive advancements, aiming to prolong participants confidence and safety in driving for years to come!

The workshop also highlights how age can affect driving and considers the steps participants can implement to ensure that they remain aware and vigilant with any changes they experience as a sign of aging that may affect their driving.  The two hour workshop is interactive, engaging and insightful and contributes to keeping both drivers and the community safe.

At the end of 2024, the Toyota Manufacturing UK Charitable Trust was proud to donate £19,000 to Via East Midlands to help fund the "Drive on Older Driver Programme".

The National Young Rider Forum (NYRF) is a group of Road Safety Professionals, joining their expertise to specifically look at Young Motorcyclists.  They are the only road safety group that focus on young motorcyclists aged 16 to 24 years and ride powered two wheelers of up to 125cc.

The Forum members bring a wealth of expertise from all corners of Road Casualty reduction and include representatives from Local Authority Road Safety Teams, Safer Road Partnerships, Motorcycle Industries Association (MCIA), Motorcycle Action Group (MAG), Police Forces, Fire & Rescue and the DVSA.

Our funding contribution of £11,000 will contribute to providing a one-sto-shop for new and young powered two-wheeler riders in an effort to help them safely navigate life on the road.  Information ranges from choosing a motorcycle or the correct PPE to looking after motorcycles but, most importantly, how to stay safe whilst on the roads.
