Deeside Engine Plant
Toyota UK’s Engine Plant is located in North Wales and employs around 600 members. The site covers approximately 115 acres / 0.48 million sq m and is located on Zone 3, of the Deeside Industrial Park
In 2024, a total of 244,463 hybrid & petrol engines were produced for Corolla vehicles built in Derbyshire, for C-HR vehicles built in Turkey and Corolla Cross built in South Africa.
Engines are produced through a process of aluminium casting, precision machining and assembly before final inspection and despatch to Vehicle Plants.
The casting process comes first. This is where aluminium ingots are melted in molten and injected at high speed to form cylinder heads and cylinder blocks.
These parts then enter the machining process – along with a number of other engine components. In total, there are 6 high precision machining lines, with over 350 machines between them.
Finally, over 320 parts are then assembled on the fastest Toyota assembly line of it’s type – in the World! The Deeside engine assembly line, has the capability to produce an engine every 44 seconds.
All engines are built following Toyota’s lean manufacturing principles; emphasizing safety, quality and efficiency. Every engine is rigorously tested at multiple stages, before leaving site, on their journey to becoming the heart of hybrid vehicles across Europe.
