Business in the Community

Business in the Community (BITC) is a unique movement of over 800 of the UK’s leading companies committed to improving their positive impact on society.

Toyota Manufacturing UK is a member of BITC and we work with the organisation to measure and report on our progress and to illustrate the action we are taking to improve the impact of operations, products and services on society and the environment.

Business in the Community's CR Index is the UK’s leading benchmark of responsible business, helping companies to integrate and improve responsible business across their organisation, and providing a systematic approach to managing, measuring and reporting their impacts on society and the environment.

For the 2007 CR index (reported 2008), 111 companies submitted publicly to the index to report on the impact they had on society and the environment through their business activities. The index explores four key areas the environment, community, marketplace and workplace and from this we can compare our values and strategy into responsible business practice.

Toyota Manufacturing UK was ranked in the Gold banding in the BITC’s CR Index for 2007, with an overall score of 92.5%, an improvement on the Silver banding of 82.5% in 2006.

In the Environment Index 2007 Toyota Manufacturing UK was ranked in the Platinum banding with a score of 99%.

Business in the Community ‘Big Tick’ awards

Now in their 10th year, the Business in the Community Awards for Excellence are the most influential UK awards recognising the positive impact of responsible business in the marketplace, workplace, environment and community.

The Awards for Excellence have grown into an annual showcase of the best examples of responsible business from around the country. They unearth inspiring win/win stories which show the impact on society that companies can deliver, and the business value they can generate, from embedding responsible business into the heart of their company.

Awards are offered in the following categories, Impact on Society, Community, Environment, Market Place, Workplace and Leadership.
